KING FAISAL FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP

Mr. Munther al-Hanbali

When I was a young, I used to read about self-development, and the concept appealed to me.

I wrote about sports for developing the community when I applied to King Faisal Foundation scholarship to study Industrial Engineering at Alfaisal University. I had an idea that doing sports can fulfill the void in youth lives to a certain extent and can have a positive effect on students’ academic work.

At that time, I didn’t know that this was already applied in universities around the world. I wrote about this in the scholarship application. I was surprised that it was accepted although it was unrelated to engineering.

I was very happy to study at Alfaisal University as it was truly a student-centered university.

The Dean used to sit with us twice a month and listen to us as students. The top management from King Faisal Foundation also used to visit us every now and then at the university.

One of the most touching times is when one of King Faisal’s sons attended one of our classes and asked us about our opinion and views about the class. Support and follow-up are 2 main things which make the Foundation unique. The leadership is there.

I initiated ‘Tawzn’ which was a football league at first. In 10 years, I organized more than 20 football leagues for different age groups.

THE IDEA

After graduation and after working at different companies in 2017, the idea of balance between body, mind, heart, and spirit started emerging.

At the companies where I worked, the operations departments were not doing well. We forget sometimes that there are humans who implement the systems at companies. This constituted the drive behind building an interest in HR to enhance people’s morale, wellbeing, and productivity at work.

I decided, then, to travel to London to complete HR courses from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development; a professional association for human resource management professionals, and I received my diploma. I also took “Gallup Strengthsfinder Define your Inner Talent and Strength” certified course.

THE INITIATION OF ‘TAWAZN’

I quit my job as a business analyst. I took a bold decision to start a company. It was ‘Tawazn’, which aimed to provide practical programs around the idea of balance between 4 dimensions: body, mind, heart, and spirit.

“Tawazn” provides leaders and companies with tools that enable them to discover their strengths. It helps individuals have a balance that enables them to discover their inner voice, achieve their organizations’ goals, succeed in the market, and ensure their continuity.

It offers Clifton Strengths coaching and facilitation for organizations, teams, and individuals. Clifton Strengths is a tool developed by The Gallup Organization to help individuals discover their strengths and to aid organizations improve company culture and performance.

FUTURE GOALS

I hope that I will be able to build a strengths-based community where we use a strengths-based language meaning that when we talk to one another we talk about what we can do and not what we cannot do. We (in the corporate world) need to start thinking about employees’ social needs, wellbeing, and happiness. I hope that employees can reach a point where they can discuss emotional fulfilment and not only salary raises and leaves (days off).
